About Us
Ulster Budokai was founded in 1976 by Sensei Mark Roosa, a professional educator who headed the dojo for 40 years, until his retirement in 2016. Our dojo offers instruction in traditional Kodokan Judo to children (ages 6+), adults and special needs students. Our instructors are volunteers who enjoy sharing their knowledge and donating their time, allowing us to provide quality Judo instruction at a minimum fee.
Classes are structured for competitors and non-competitors alike, with instructions in randori, self-defense, and kata. Competition training is available featuring our experienced local, state and national competitors. Advancement in rank is through the Hudson Judo Yudanshakai and the United States Judo Federation (USJF).
Chief Instructor: Bill Scribner
Assistant Instructors: Lev Kalyuzhny, Wayne Olson
